Links 5/31/11

Hope all of you had a fun and relaxing Memorial Day weekend! I know I did. Sorry the links this week are so sad and short. I always get sidetracked on long weekends.

Nice review of drugstore mascaras from Beauty Bets. I've been using Cover Girl LashBlast lately, but after reading this I decided to try Lash Stilletos. Uh, it's fab. More on that in a post later.

I'm not gonna lie, I don't think Kate Moss has been looking all that stellar in recent years (must be that crack pipe...) but Frugal Fashionista shows that here at her Mango Kate Moss show she looks really great!

Amber at BBJ reviews Covergirl's new lipstick, which sounds really awesome! I could use some help getting over my chapstick addiction

Allure's editor favs for the week. That Revlon crayon is looking neat-o. I will try that one out and let you know!

And just for kicks, a city guide to Florence from Design*Sponge, just because it's basically my favorite place on earth.

Delaying the links to bring you the Beauty box

I was a slacker on the links this week (weddings and work kicking my behind have left little time for Google reader). BUT I got my Allure this weekend and found the ad for the Summer Beauty Box.

virtualstore.allure.com
Y'all this thing is AWESOME. All full size products. Mostly drugstore brands, but a few higher end like Oscar Blandi. The only thing I don't care about trying in this set is the hairbrush! If you bought all this in the store it wouldn't be anywhere near only $40. I'm still using stuff I got in the box last year. Doesn't look like it comes with a bag this year, but that's ok. You can read about my geeking out over it HERE. Looking at the pic from last year, I think there is more stuff in the bag this year, which is awesome!

I recommend ordering it HERE on Allure's virtual store ASAP. Sale begins at noon today. The supply is limited as far as I know. Shipping is $10, which is totally bogus, but whatever. That bottle of Clean & Clear body wash would probably be about $8 at a drugstore, so it's still worth it. Last summer it took a few weeks to get it which is kinda bummer, but this year they are saying only 2 weeks for shipment. Trust me my friends, it's totally worth the $50.

Link time!

It's Tuesday, and that means it's link time!

Coinciding with my post the other day, the Glamour magazine folks detail some products to save your skin from razor burn

I think I can file this as the most bizarre makeup thing I have ever seen. Polka dot lips?? Talk about things you can't un-see!

This is just fun...Elizabeth Dehn shares 8 ideas for flavored water. I have the urge to host a summer brunch now...

This looks pretty interesting. Sally at Already Pretty reviews a new site where you can upload photos of your wardrobe, get feedback from other members, and even shop. And of course, there's an app for that: Go Chic or Go Home

Oh my gosh I want to distribute this to college campuses everywhere, especially Vandy. A nice infographic from Threadbared on whether or not you are wearing pants. I can go ahead and answer this for 99% of the Vandy undergrads...No, no you are not.

Tips from Allure on how to get in shape for Memorial Day. Um, so I guess we have two weeks to get ready?

Summer time beauty needs

www.nair.com
Well, if you're in the South we're about a month deep into summer weather. Gonna get a little personal here and review a product to keep your bikini area smooth for swimsuit season! I decided to try out Nair moisturizing bikini cream. I am not a waxing girl, always just used a razor, but I figured for $5.29 at Rite Aid I would give the cream a shot.

Since I have not used this product before I tested on a small spot a day ahead of time. I didn't notice any reaction, so I went ahead with the rest (not ALLLL the rest, mind you, just areas I deemed necessary...) Anywho, I left it on for 4 minutes, and it did a pretty good job of removal! It doesn't smell bad at all. There was a little twinge of burning near the very last minute, but once I had completely showered off it was fine. I'd say the results are slightly better than shaving. Now. One thing I didn't consider was avoiding putting the cream back on the same spot I had tested...I have some slight redness today in the "double application" area, but other than that fine.

Other reviews I have read online say it doesn't last too long, which I had already suspected. But again, it works just as well if not better than shaving, it's cheap, and it's fast (4 min!). So unless I break out in hives in a day (which I will obviously report back about), I will continue to use this product! They also make a version for sensitive skin, which I may try next. This area is prone to sensitivity anyway, as you all know, so if you even suspect you might have issues I would go with the sensitive skin version right off the bat.

Happy sunbathing (wear your sunscreen!!)
