No exciting links this Tuesday. How about a review?

This week was sloooww in beauty blog world, so no links this Tuesday. I do, however, have a new review! I have been meaning to write about it for over a week, and just got some free time to do so. I am happy to announce the re-birth of a 1990s FAVE of mine...the Clinique chubby stick. If any of you remember the original, it was a chubby little lipliner/lipstick combo in one that you had to sharpen like a lipliner. When they discontinued I was so sad to lose my super dark, wine-toned shade, Grapevine. I was so  tragic and unfortunate looking  hip and grunge back then ya know. BUT despite the uber dark shades, it really was a cool little product! Well, thankfully it's BACK. And BETTER.

The new chubby sticks are swivel, so you don't have to worry about sharpening. They come in a range of sheer, bright colors that are super fun. I had read excellent reviews about it HERE at Styleist and HERE at Beauty Blogging Junkie, so I finally bit the bullet and purchased a few weeks ago. I purchased Chunky Cherry and Whole Lotta Honey. Chunky Cherry is shown below (hopefully you can see the fun cherry tone!)

OMIGAH I LOVE THESE THINGS. They are light, the color is perfect (as IF Clinique lipstick would be anything but), and they don't dry out my lips. They are as easy to apply as Chapstick. Whole Lotta Honey was an impulse buy, and I am SO glad I bought it. It is the BEST neutral lipstick I have ever purchased. Ever. I even layered it with chunky cherry, and it looked great! They do need reapplying, especially after eating or drinking, but since they are described as a "balm" that shouldn't come as a huge shock.

These sticks can be found wherever Clinique is sold. The department stores were sold out at my mall, but trusty Sephora had plenty. They are $15, and totally worth it.

Anyway, my dear friend Coco has inspired me to get a little more, shall we say, fierce with my lipstick choices. I am starting with a red from NARS called Viridiana (Color swatch to the left, $24 at Sephora). She suggested "Beyonce Red" by Loreal Infalliable lipstick, if you don't have time to get to a Sephora as well.

Pantone Color of the Year

As my second cold of the season sets in, combined with my graceful spill on the ice in Nash, and the in general dreariness of it all I started looking for something to perk up my days. I'm not quite ready to give up fall and winter makeup, but I may have to sneak in Pantone's color of the year, Honesuckle, here and there.

What's this color of the year business? Well, Pantone is a company that provides, among other things, a standard for colors that printing, design, and other industries. In other words, if one company wants to print something in red, they can use the Pantone system to select and standardize their colors. They release color reports identifying color trends to coincide with Fashion weeks (SPRING 2011 HERE) And that, is where this post comes in. I personally love this color. Now, I am no fashionista so I won't even get into suggestions for clothes; although, I will state that I may become slightly obsessed with locating a dress in this exact color for my BFF's May wedding. Strapless. Just sayin. (If you see one, holla...)

But imagine this color on cheeks, lips, and nails...I know, RIGHT? So cute. I may have to sneak some on my toes this winter. No one will know but me, but sometimes it's the little things that can brighten your day! I found three items below that are along the right color lines: Nars blush in Desire ($28), OPI Polish in Ladies and Magenta-men ($9), and Korres lip butter in Quince ($10).

I personally will stay away from the color on my nails until spring, but I'm all about it on my lips and incorporating into outfits (cami under a sweater, scarf...again, not a fashion maven here, but it could be cute!) Hope you are all staying warm and cozy...and if you need a pick me up, maybe this is just the ticket for you!

Need a last minute stocking stuffer?

So I had a $20 coupon to Sephora the other day and ran in to replenish my Clinique facewash, toner, etc. To use the $20 I had to spend $40, so I looked around the travel size section in the check out line and stumbled upon these:

The Korres Lip Saver Roll ($19.50). Since I am totally obsessed with any and all items chapstick/lip butter/lip soothing related I decided to try this out. SO glad I did because I LOVE them. They are silky smooth with fun pops of color. I like them much better than the Burt's Bees tinted chapstick. I haven't been disappointed by any Korres products so far. They are "green"--free of all the synthetic goo that is often found in makeup, and they smell great, and most importantly, they WORK. Each individual one retails for $10, so if you are looking for a last minute stocking stuffer this is a great deal!

Another steal at Sephora

Dang, this is a pretty sweet little deal. 12 Clinique lipglosses in travel size for $25 with a free clutch (FLORALBAG at checkout). For comparison, a full size tube of Clinique Long Last Glosswear (similar to this) is $14 per tube. I like the colors, I may have to purchase this along with the sunscreen kit!

Did you know you can make lipstick with crayons? Ha! Cause you can. I read about it on Beauty Blogging Junkie, and she read about it on instructables.com. So click her site or..just click the other site HERE. Make sure to click the little pictures by each step to get the full details.

Seems pretty straightforward...get a chapstick tube, melt the crayon over a double boiler with various ingredients such as jojoba oil and lanolin...viola! Lipstick.

I have to admit...the ChemE in me is EXTREMELY interested in testing this out. I will have to go purchase crayons though...will let you know!
