Revlon Photo Ready...the follow-up post

So. Went out yesterday to Walgreens to pick myself up some drug store foundation, which I haven't done in years. I admit, I did miss the ability to test the color before buying. However, I am pretty good at eye-balling what is the right color at this point (10 years of wearing foundation will do that). Anywho, got to Walgreens and their entire Revlon section was gone. GONE. The rest of their makeup section was pretty tragic as well...so alas I didn't get the 2 for 1 deal my friend LG did.

So, went across the street to Rite-Aid and thought I was going to be disappointed AGAIN until I found the foundation in a separate set-up in the front of the store.

So far, I'm very impressed! It has very even coverage. It's light and not greasy AND matches my skin (I chose Nude...which is the third up from the lightest). Picture attached...it's really not the best quality, but I just wanted to show that my face was not really shiny, as some people complained about.

Another thing. I've had it on for a few hours now, and other than my forehead it STILL looks good. Not bad at all for $14 foundation! By comparison, my Laura Mercier is $40 a pop. I plan to still use it for major functions (weddings, etc) because it seriously just lasts and lasts...but for everyday use I'm going to continue with the Revlon! For comparison, the picture below is me following a complimentary makeup session at Laura Mercier. Had on LOTS more makeup, and the makeup artist there also added some highlighter, so that's why my cheeks look slightly "brighter"..and it was taken with a normal camera, not my phone. :) But really, foundation really isn't much different, don't ya think??
End of day update: Still going pretty strong, and my face does not feel greasy. It has stayed on better than my tinted moisturizer, which is nice. Forehead shiny, but my forehead gets shiny 0.01 seconds after putting on makeup in the morning anyway!!

New Foundation...TBD

So. I'm pretty dang loyal to my Laura Mercier foundation. That, and I haven't bought drug store brand foundation in years...but with the blogs going on and on about the wonderfulness of this I believe I will have to try it out.

These are a few blogs discussing results. The biggest drawback I have heard so far is that it has too much shimmer. I will let you know what I find out.

Anyway, just thought I would post about it since I had seen so much recent chatter on it...And before I commit...is there any brand you would like for me to try and post a review on?

SO STINKING EXCITED ABOUT THIS

Ohhhhhh NARS. If you have never tried NARS products then you are missing.the.hell.out. I love me some NARS makeup. I'm currently coveting the duo eyeshadow in Kuala Lampur from the Spring 2010 and single eyeshadow in Grenadines:

And the cruising lipstick, also from Spring 2010. The Spring 2010 collection is really fun, check it out on the NARS Site. But I digress..However. All of these are taking a backseat to THIS.

Orgasm Illuminator. I'm, as I said, SO STINKING EXCITED. I have the Orgasm blush and nail polish. It's peachy pink, but somehow looks good on pretty much everyone. Even the salesperson at Sephora said it was their bestseller. The Illuminator is not blush, but is supposed to give you that "glow". (The name makes sense, no?) It just came out at Sephora (and, btw, is only available there. $29), so I will be purchasing ASAP.

Oh, and consider this my off-topic message: While I have the luxury to sit here and go on and on about makeup there are people out there who need help. Say, in Haiti. So if you feel so compelled..donate $10 to the Red Cross by texting "Haiti" to 90999.

To give credit where it's due, I first heard about this at Beauty Blogging Junkie

Allure's recommendation for cleaning out the ole' makeup bag

Since it's the new year, and a lot of people (well, ME at least) obsessively clean out stuff more often than just "spring cleaning"...also consider cruising through the makeup drawer and purging the old stuff.

Allure has a good blog post HERE with some suggestions. The one I forget the most is lipstick. I've talked about the grossness of that before...anywho. I plan to go through my lipstick again when I get home. I went through my nail polish, brushes, and eyeliner already. Another thing I need to tackle is the bag of sample size stuff, Clinique bonuses, and misc freebies. Some of those freebies are OLD and need to be trashed since I'm obviously not going to use them!

Mascara is already on my radar...I toss and replace every three months. To help me remember, I put a small piece of tape on the bottom of a new tube with the date (i.e. 1/10) so I know when it's kaput. If it's starts to get kinda clumpy or dried out, I think you may have waited too long. And trust me...if you ever DO get something in your mascara...like I did where my eye itched for two weeks and I got a sty (I know, TMI, but it's true)...then you will also be on the 3 month bandwagon.

Supersizes at Sephora

Happy New Year everyone (did I say that already??) Anyway, Sephora has some good deals going on right now. They have their jumbo-sized items out. Clinique, Philosophy, Smashbox, and Living Proof are a few of the big sellers. I may snap up a few items myself, especially the Clinique Moisturizing gel that I have been using for like, 10 years. You get 60% more for the same price as regular size.

So check all the available items out HERE.

p.s. I know I've been super slack on the posts, and the ones I have posted have just been sales...but I will be posting some product reviews soon. Stay tuned!
